Your mindset is your basic outlook, assumptions about the world or attitudes. It is the main lens through which you look at yourself, and life.
God's word is clear that your mind is moldable! Your outlook not only can change, it needs to change to match your new life in Christ, your new identity. As a believer, what's the right "setting" for your mind?
The proper setting for your mind is "Above!"
Spinal Tap is famous for cranking the volume knob to "11." Well, Colossians 3:1-3 says, "above" is the new normal for you:
"Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God."
The word mind above is often translated "affections." You can cultivate your affections. You can develop a taste for things, both good and bad. And you can develop a distasted for things too.

God's Word warns that a mind "set on the flesh" has just the opposite effect on us (Romans 8:5-9):
5 Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. 6 The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace. 7 The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so. 8 Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God.
9 You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ.
There is a cultural view today that our feelings, our personal preferences, are all important. But God's Word says that is not the case. There are eternal realities beyond our own being that we must consider and puruse. The "flesh" is our own self-gratification. The Spirit refers to the Holy Spirit within us as believers.
