Here are some of the top free online tools you can use to study your Bible.
- Cross references - Find closely related verses to the one you are reading even if they are in different books of the Bible. One of the best free online Cross Reference tools is openbible.info. Just type in a verse and it pulls up all the cross references. This is one of the best ways to study a word or topic in Scripture.
- Bible Search Sites- For a quick basic but powerful way to search the Bible (in many different translations) BibleGateway is hard to beat. Just type in a word, or words, or a verse and in split second every occurence of that word is pulled up. An intermediate site is BibleHub. For more advanced free Bible search and study tool, with access to the underlying Greek and Hebrew (for English speakers!) go to Blue Letter Bible.
- Bible Book Overviews - Hands down thebibleproject.com is the place to go. This is an amazing, engaging animated overview of every individual book of the Bible. There is also a 12 minute overview of the entire Old Testament, and an 8 minute animated overview of the New Testament. And there are many doctrinal overviews too. Check out the gospel of John animated video. Watching these is a great introduction before you read a particular book of the Bible, or just to get the big picture of a book or doctrine.
- Daily Bible Reading (quiet time) - To get started in the habit of a daily time with God try The Next 30 Days. It's a free 30 day subscription with a daily reading of biblical and practical insights and the online version even has a short video blog interview with the different writers. At the end there are suggestions of how to continue with sites such as YouVersion or InTouch.
